Random page viewer: “Joe, why should I trust you to tutor my child when I have so many options?”
Joe: “Great question. You do have plenty of test prep options, and I may not be the best choice for your family. One free service I offer –though I’d gladly accept a cup of coffee as payment– is a half-hour consult where I sit down with both student and parent to answer any questions you have, including who else may serve your learning style better. That is a great opportunity to feel me out, see if I’m a good fit. Call or email anytime to schedule.
“So, the first reason to trust me is that I’ll be honest with you, even if that means you give someone else your business.”
Random page viewer: “Why would you do that? Doesn’t sound good for your bottom line?”
Joe: “Serving your family is the core of my business. Seeing you succeed is my goal. From that foundation I let the customers come and sales surface, as opposed to others who want your money first and from that philosophy figure out what to do for you. So, if I am not the best choice and you go on and succeed the best you can elsewhere, that’s still a win for me because that’s what I wanted all along!”
Random page viewer: “Interesting. Any other advantages to choosing you?”
Joe: “Yes, definitely.
Price: I’m cheaper than one-on-one tutoring with national test prep companies like Kaplan (notice how I don’t mind you knowing about my competition), and am more experienced than any tutor you get from them. My rates are also lower than other local, highly-reputable outfits.
Convenience: You can work with me, a single point of contact, for scheduling all sections of the test you want help with: English, Math, Reading, Science, Essay. Others require you to juggle separate tutors for each section. Finally, Skype sessions are available for the ultimate convenience.
Accountability: When issues arise with scheduling, progress, payments, or anything, there is nobody in another city you need to call to resolve them. You work directly with me for any concerns.
Flexibility: Since there is no time delay due to a middle manager, I can set and adjust your schedule right away. Plus, I can not only support one-on-one sessions, but also joint and back-to-back sessions to match your needs. Also, if you gather some family friends and want a classroom setting instead, I am very willing and able to accommodate.
Experience: Test prep specifically since 2010. Twenty-plus years of Engineering in Wireless Telecom. Writing short stories and a novel. See my Professional Brief for a few more details.
Please feel free to call or email anytime if other questions arise.”
